Bahia School Age Program provides subsidized and full-cost childcare for 65 children ages 5 to 10 years old. Our program provides extended care during the school year and full-time on school holidays and over the summer. Children are grouped by age: Pollitos (Kindergarteners), Leones (1st & 2nd graders), Tigres (2nd & 3rd graders), and Delfines (4th Graders.) In these groupings children are exposed to age-appropriate activities which are planned to promote and support a school age child's skills in reading, writing and math and as well as enrich his/her learning. The program provides tutoring, homework assistance, gardening, arts and crafts, recreational activities (such as basketball, soccer and tennis) and field trips to enhance children's experiences, knowledge and sense of community. Spanish and English is woven throughout the child's daily activities and interactions with teachers and children who are bilingual. Cal tutors, through CalCorps, support those children that need additional focus with attention on reading, math proficiency.
