Description
Welcome to San Francisco University High School! UHS is a special community, well-known for its challenging academic offerings and intellectual vitality. Our classrooms are full of spirited debate; our labs are spaces for collaborative discovery; and our studios, stages, and playing fields are arenas where we create and compete with passion and purpose. We believe that a lively academic culture, while the foundation of our mission, represents only one facet of an extraordinary school. Strong student and faculty relationships, a culture of peer support, students assuming leadership in all aspects of school life, and active service in the community beyond our campus are essential aspects of the UHS experience. The standards we set for ourselves are high, but the benefits of those aspirations are limitless in a school that believes in the promise of every student.
One of UHS’s greatest assets is our urban location, allowing us direct access to one of the most vibrant and inspiring cities in the world. San Francisco offers endless ways to enrich our classes and service projects—from studying marine life on Ocean Beach to taking in a new exhibit at SFMOMA to serving lunch at St. Anthony’s to tutoring middle-school students at University’s very own Summerbridge program.
And just as we treasure the Bay Area community beyond our campus walls, we constantly seek to cultivate the bonds we form right here at UHS. Our signature ninth-grade mentoring program provides students with connection and attention from trained faculty laying an early foundation for success and confidence in their first year of high school life.
Another crucial thread in the fabric of UHS is, undoubtedly, the spirit imbued in every member of our community. Connecting students across grade levels, our twice-weekly All-School Meeting brings us together for memorable performances, fascinating guest speakers, and the always-hilarious Battle of the Classes. And our Red Devils relish the opportunity to cheer one another on at games both home and away, filling sidelines, grandstands, and the bleachers of our very own Devil Dome with a spirit second to none.
