Description
In 1976, Val Anthony created a school for students who needed a different approach to learning. Starting in a storefront 40 years ago, Sterne School has since grown into the premier school in the Bay Area for middle and high school students who learn differently.
Sterne is based on a “strengths” model where we focus on what our students can do and the many talents yet to be realized. An individualized learning plan illuminates each student’s strengths and provides high-support for areas where each student may struggle. Sterne’s dedicated teachers are trained to specifically address a range of learning issues, from reading to math to difficulties with executive functioning. Beyond expertise, it is their love of learning and teaching that fosters a positive, caring classroom environment provoking intellectual curiosity and discovery.
Our middle school program and learning strategies translate seamlessly into our high school college preparatory program. Sterne High School’s flagship program, Passages, guides students through the post-secondary planning process so each senior graduates with the skills, strategies, and confidence for college and making their way in the world.
