Description
Designed by Adele Santos, the Yerba Buena Children’s Garden is the perfect place for family fun, integrating interactive and engaging areas for kids with an emphasis on discovery, nature, and play. A focal point is the Children’s Creativity Museum—an interactive art and technology museum for kids. There’s 100-year-old hand-carved 1906 carousel that invites people into the garden and is an attraction itself.
The Children’s Garden includes the Play Circle which has a sand circle, a playground, a xylophone and a 25-foot tube slide, designed by M. Paul Friedberg, known internationally for his pioneering work in urban playground design. There’s a labyrinth of growing hedges to mimic a child-size version of those found in ancient castles. A stream and fountain are incorporated for children interact with the flow of water, whether creating dams or irrigating the gardens. An outdoor amphitheater is used for youth performances and public events. Indoors are a bowling ally and ice-skating rink. The huge Children’s Garden covers an amazing 130,000 square feet and is built on top of Moscone Center.
