Description

Avalon Non-Public School, formally the “Oakland Hills Academy,” serves males and females, ages 12 through 22, who have a developmental disability and may also have a mental health diagnosis. This population has been traditionally underserved and many times find themselves in services that are not specifically designed to meet their complex needs.
Avalon Non-Public School is a specialized educational placement for students with Developmental Disabilities and Serious Emotional Disturbance. Its purpose is to maximize the student’s level of academic and community functioning, enabling them to engage in a pattern of everyday living similar to that of non-disabled peers. A key objective of the program is increasing the student’s ability to succeed in a less restrictive school environment, reduced structure and increased independence.
