Description
St. Francis Solano School is accredited by the Western Catholic Elementary Association (WCEA) and the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) and meets or exceeds Common Core standards in all subjects. While accreditation is essential, we constantly work to set higher goals that raise the bar for learning. St. Francis Solano School provides the academic, social and spiritual resources to ensure that students can achieve in an ever-changing world.
Our small class size encourages interaction and more customized learning. Even in the middle school grades, where our enrollment traditionally reaches over 30 per class, students are organized into smaller groups – often about 15 students – for more individualized, focused learning in core curriculum. It also allows for creative, active and hands-on learning; teaching in a way that engages the heart and minds at every grade level.
At the middle school level, St. Francis Solano School prepares students for long-term success by developing strong skill sets including: strong study habits, written and oral presentations, team projects, and technology projects. These are skills that will serve them well in high school, college and beyond. Additionally, the extensive middle school curriculum allows students to advance at a quicker pace, often placing students into second year and advanced placement programs in math, Spanish, and literature once reaching high school. The middle school reading lists include but are not limited to authors such as: Mark Twain, Washington Irving, Jack London, George Orwell, John Steinbeck, Charles Dickens, Margaret Craven, Thorton Wilder, Eloise McGraw, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Brian Selznick, and a study of Greek Mythology.
